On 23rd September 2019 we launched a crowdfunding round through Seedrs, with the aim of raising £1.3m.
In previous rounds, our crowdfunding has raised £1.5m, and this strong financial backing by investors is set to continue. We have already raised 74% of our target prior to public launch.
ideal flatmate is offering equity at 16.67%, with the company valued pre-money at £6.5m. We have a strong line-up of existing investors, including:
Founded in 2016 and launched the following year by Tom Gatzen and Rob Imonikhe, ideal flatmate was born from the frustrations of dealing with traditional room shares, and we have been going from strength to strength ever since.
Our platform matches potential roommates through a personality compatibility score, compiled from scientifically designed algorithms, based on the answers to 20 professionally researched questions about lifestyle and living habits.
“We’re on a mission to fix flat-sharing by creating better flatshares through better matches,” said ideal flatmate co-founder Tom Gatzen. “With so much still wrong with the traditional process, we believe we can drive the future of the sector.”
“We offer so much more than simply being a site on which to list your spare room. By focusing on the people rather than the property, and refraining from monetising the process at the disadvantage of flathunters, we believe we’ve created a great flatsharing environment.”
In so doing, ideal flatmate is reducing void periods and creating a more harmonious rental environment for tenant and landlord alike. Those using our platform declare they are 40% happier six months after finding their ideal flatmate.
Our platform is building momentum, with brand recognition across a number of major UK cities, 300,000 current users and 10,000 new listings a month, as well as the recent release of our app.
ideal flatmate’s success hasn’t gone unnoticed: our platform has secured exclusive listing rights outside of the traditional property portals with all of the UK’s biggest build-to-rent housebuilders. This enables groups of compatible flatmates to be some of the first to access build-to-rent and co-living property developments, and rent rooms directly from the housebuilders themselves.
“We don’t seem to be the only ones who believe we can drive the future of this sector, and we’re quite overwhelmed by the number of people that have already pledged to support us through our crowdfunding round,” praised Tom Gatzen.
“This latest round will help us to build on this journey and further improve on what we’ve already achieved, allowing us to give even more back to those that use the platform.”
