The Ultimate Guide To December In London

The most wonderful time of the year, is finally here.

Lights are twinkling on the streets, mulled wine and minced pies are out in full force and everyone’s picking their Christmas trees. The festive season is in full swing. And as usual, there’s plenty do in London, especially around Christmas time. So ignore that scrooge feeling, order all of the mulled wine (and hot gin that we hear is the ‘thing’ this year), and let’s get ready for the BIG day.

Seasons eatings!

Christmas Lights

There’s not many streets that you can walk down, without seeing some form of Christmas lights. So instead of trying to avoid them, embrace them and make sure to see some of the gorgeous displays, including the big and beautiful tree in Covent Garden, Carnaby Street’s vibrant Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics in neon, and the South Bank’s super cosy display.

Christmas Pop Ups

From curling on the rooftop at Roof East, to being transported into an Alpine paradise at Winterland, there’s so many amazing pop ups this month, and so little time. So read our Best Winter Pop Ups In London, and then work your way around them all!

Christmas Carols

If traditional is more your thing, then the Christmas Carols in Trafalgar Square is right up your street. There’ll be more than 40 carol groups, singing festive songs and carols beneath the Christmas tree, raising funds for charity. Get those vocals warmed up!

Ice Skating

We all love a bit of ice skating, but we love it even more around Christmas time. Whether you want to skate on Europe’s only rooftop ice rink at Skylight, feel cultured on the ice at the National History Museum, or want to impress in your skates at Somerset House, there are plenty of places to get your skates on. We’ve rounded them up in our Best Winter Pop Ups In London too.

New Year’s Eve

That age old question everyone always seems to ask you come December 1st, “what’s your plans for New Year’s Eve?” And whilst it might be tempting to toast in the new year from the comfort of your home with a cheap bottle of fizz, London is the place to be. Because, London knows how to throw a good party. Design My Night have rounded up the best places to party this New Year’s Eve.

Here’s to our favourite month of the year!
