Altrincham

If you are feeling particularly flush, head to Altrincham, widely referred to as the ‘Kensington’ of Manchester. With great transport and green spaces (check out Dunham Park), it’s beautiful and picturesque with that charming community feel.

Prestwich

If you’re looking for a similar vibe outside of the city centre but with a slightly less London-esque price tag, find your way to Prestwich. Perfect for the young professional, Prestwich can arguably offer you the best value for money the city has to offer. With prices much lower than that found in Altrincham, Prestwich Forest Park offers similar green space, there’s excellent transport on the Metrolink (you can be in the city centre in 15 minutes) and, if you’re not quite ready for that sleepy suburban feel just yet, it’s becoming known as a hipster hotspot thanks to its plethora of modern restaurants and bars.

Manchester Piccadilly

If you’re a city-goer at heart, head towards Manchester’s city centre. Manchester Piccadilly is not only home to the city’s main train station offering excellent transport connections within and outside the city, but it’s also a hub of action. But be warned: prices are slightly higher as a result.

Deansgate

If affordability is high on your radar, look no further than Deansgate. The road runs through the city centre in a near straight route and has recently been redeveloped: it’s now home to a whole hoard of new builds, plus a dynamic array of bars and restaurants. At walking distance to the city centre, it’s the perfect spot for those searching for that city-like hustle and bustle at a not-so-alarming price.

Didsbury

Charming Didsbury offers similar great value for money and is particularly popular with young professionals thanks to an easy commute into the city centre. Check out Wilmslow Road for a great collection of independent restaurants and bars.

Northern Quarter

And if a little bit of quirky character is more your thing, the Northern Quarter has everything you could be looking for with vintage boutiques, art and music shops, and independent businesses.

Ancoats

At night, the area is the perfect place to drink and listen to live music. Meanwhile, Ancoats was recently listed as Time Out’s 13th coolest neighbourhood in the world. Just north-east of the city centre and similarly packed with restaurants of international cuisine, a plethora of bars, and a slightly younger demographic, Ancoats is definitely up there as one of the best places to live in Manchester.

Castlefield

Finally, try Castlefield for something a little more picturesque within the city. One of the oldest parts of the city, Castlefield is home to canals and mills and is great for those who want to be close to the city but not quite in the full hubbub of the centre. It’s cobbled streets and high-end bars and restaurants form the perfect combination of old and new.
