7 European City Breaks You Haven’t Thought Of

#7 – Aarhus, Denmark

While most tourists flock to the pretty streets of Copenhagen, Denmark’s second-largest city Aarhus is an uncompromising alternative. It boasts a combination of architecture from the beautifully historical to the chic and modern; most charming is the Latin Quarter and nearby Møllestien lane, where cobbled streets, colourful houses and boutique shops and cafes embody the Danish hygge mood. Explore the Aarhus Central Food Market, where foodies, professional chefs, locals and tourists all enjoy a vast array of seasonal delicacies and traverse the Danish gastronomy scene. For history buffs, Aarhus also boasts the unique Den Gamle By. A museum of living history, the model town transports you on a journey with actors showing what life was like from the turn-of-the-century to the 1970s, giving visitors a real taste of historical Danish culture.
