Fork Biscuits

Let’s start off nice and simple, with the humble three-ingredient fork biscuit. These are a favourite of Mary Berry – and as much as we all love the Prue and Paul combo, there’s definitely a Mary-shaped hole in the Bake Off tent, so we can honour her with a tasty treat.

Mary’s recipe is very straightforward; all you’ll need is:

100g Butter, softened
50g Caster sugar
150g Self-raising flour
Makes 16 cookies

Fork Biscuits

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C / fan 160°C / gas mark 4
2. Lightly butter two baking trays
3. Beat the butter in a bowl until softened
4. Gradually beat in the sugar, and then the flour
5. Use your hands to bring the mixture together and form a dough
6. Separate the dough into about 16 walnut-sized balls, and place them
spaced apart on the baking trays
7. Dip a fork in some water and use it to flatten the biscuits
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes until they’re a pale golden colour. Leave to cool on a wire rack.
