ideal flatmate’s first Quarterly Room Rental Index shows cost of renting a room across the UK

We are pleased to release our first Room Rental Index for Q1 looking at the cost of renting a room across the UK’s major cities.

After analysing the cost of thousands of spare rooms listed on the site, some patterns are beginning to emerge about the different prices across the country.

The latest index shows that the average UK room rental cost is currently £535 per month, up 11% since Q1 of last year.

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive location when renting is the capital, with the average room in London costing a whopping £745 per month. Glasgow ranked second with a cost of £588, along with Bournemouth (£575), Cambridge (£562) and Leeds (£548).

Looking for a room for rent? Or maybe you need to find your perfect flatmates? Look no further, and sign up to Ideal Flatmate today.

For the cheapest rooms, flat-hunters will need to head out of England to Aberdeen or Belfast where prices are significantly lower!

At ideal flatmate, we also ask everyone that signs up to our community whether they’re listing a room or searching for one, to see what matters most to them when looking for that ideal flatmate. The results show that the most important flatmate traits valued by the nation are an acceptance of sexual preference, acceptance of religious choices, keeping the fridge clean and tidy, a tendency to help each other out when in need and someone who will do their fair share of household chores.
