5 Of The Best English Breakfasts You Can Find in London

Nothing beats a full English breakfast; in fact, many would say a full breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But, do you know the difference between a quick brekkie on the go to a socially acceptable English breakfast that will keep you full throughout the day? Fear not, ideal flatmate has you covered so you won’t be left ravaged and starved until lunchtime.

What is a typical London Breakfast?

There’s nothing more us Londoners like more than sipping on a good cup of tea and tucking into an ample sized breakfast, but what exactly should be on a typical London breakfast plate? Well, you shouldn’t accept anything less than a big and succulently greasy portion with more carbs and fat than a pig farm. And nothing says a sizeable offering more than a plate of fried eggs, sausage, mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes, beans, black pudding and a side of toast.

If any of these items are missing from your plate, then quite frankly you are not experiencing a full English breakfast and you are being robbed of a nutritious start to the day.

Best breakfast in London?

Finding a good English breakfast in London can sometimes be easier said than done. In between the hipster favourite of Avocado and Toast, to venturing past yet another organic coffee shop start-up, the search for the absolute best of the best English Breakfast, also known as a “fry-up” that not only is value for money, but will also keep you full and energised has become as difficult as trying to start up a decent conversation on Tinder without being sexually propositioned and bombarded with pictures of genitals.

But fear not, as the breakfast seekers here at Ideal Flatmate have searched up and down the city and followed the lingering trail of scrambled eggs and bangers to find you 5 Of the Best English Breakfasts You Can Find in London.

The Breakfast Club

We start off our fry-up adventure at the aptly named Breakfast Club.

Serving breakfast since 2005 and set in 16 locations across the UK, from London Bridge to Soho, the Breakfast Clubs interior charm is just as quirky and oozing character and charm as the fat dripping off the bacon that it serves. We especially like the Full Monty Breakfast, which for just £11.50 will get you a generous plate of Bacon, sausage, black pudding, fried potatoes, mushrooms, beans, tomato, eggs and toast.

But it’s not just a substantial fry-up that will keep you coming back for more. What sets the Breakfast Club apart is the special events that it hosts throughout the year. From bingo and Spice Girls Tribute Bands, to Drag Queens serving you a cuppa with your egg muffin.

If you are looking for a little bit of camp with your Cumberland sausage than the Breakfast Club is right up your alley, plus they serve their breakfast until 12pm which is a bonus, especially if you are still reeling from a hangover.

The Regency Cafe

However, if you are looking for something a little bit more traditional than the Regency Cafe is the place for you.

First opening its doors in 1946, this small and charming café has certainly stood the test of time and has been dishing up proper British grub since. Set in the surroundings of Regency Street, near Westminster London, you can tuck into a full English breakfast of 2 slices of Bacon, egg, sausage, a choice of beans or tomatoes, bread or toast, accompanied by a choice of tea or coffee, or for a mere £6.00, with the option to add extras (e.g. bubble and squeak, hash browns, black pudding) for an extra 90p).

Whether it’s the endearing art deco style Interior or the decade old wall tilings, the quaint and vintage surroundings of the Regency Café transform you back to a time where life was a much simpler one, but the breakfast was still as hearty.

Hawksmoor Guildhall

Now this is a breakfast that dreams are made of.

Named the ‘best power’ breakfast by GQ Magazine and set in the heart of the city, the Hawksmoor Guildhall’s meaty full English breakfast is just as whopping as its price tag. For £38.00 you can get an  immense full English breakfast for 2 people, where with an unlimited supply of toast, you will get smoked bacon chop, sausages, (made with pork, beef, and mutton), black pudding, short-rib bubble and squeak, grilled bone marrow, trotter baked beans, fried eggs, grilled mushrooms, roast tomatoes and toppled with HP gravy.

You can get a smaller portion for 1 person for £16.50, however, nothing says first date goals than sharing a full English breakfast together. Now, that is a relationship that is going places.

Blighty Café

Nothing is more British than an English Breakfast, and nobody is more British than Winston Churchill, so what do you get if you combine the two? A Union Jack flag waving breakfast that will make you proud to be, well… British.

Established in 2013 and set in two cafes based in Finsbury Park and Tottenham, the Blighty Café celebrates all things Commonwealth. Blighty Café has been the centre of controversy when in 2018, demonstrators burst into the premises and urged customers to boycott the place for ‘celebrating colonialism’.

However, rather than being boycotted, the Blighty Café found itself propelled into the top 20 London cafes on TripAdvisor. And with good reason, for £9.90 you can get a full English Breakfast named after the treasured former Prime Minster himself. Included on the patriotic you will get 2 fried eggs, British bacon, a Cumberland sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, bone marrow, black pudding, baked beans and sourdough toast.

Now, if that isn’t a breakfast that makes you want to belt out a rendition of ‘God Save the Queen’ than quite frankly, we don’t know what will.

Weatherspoon

Well, we couldn’t end our best English breakfasts in London any other way really could we.

Nothing says full English breakfast more than a fry-up from your local Weatherspoon. And with good reason, Weatherspoon full English breakfasts are just as iconic as the trademark white and blue patterned plates that they are served on.

Breakfast is served from opening time until noon with prices at the pub chain differing up and down the country so you will have to pop into your local to find out the exact pricing. But for your money you will get a full and abundant English breakfast that will leave you ready to face the day.
