The area
Clapham is perfectly located between Battersea and Brixton, two equally great areas. Clapham has become extremely popular for its lively vibe which attracts young professionals from all over the world. It is divided into four areas: Clapham North, Clapham Old Town, Clapham South and Clapham Junction. Clapham North is the less gentrified area. It is cheaper and a good place for students and recent graduates. Clapham South is a little further out and is popular for families generally. Clapham Old Town has many beautiful Victorian and Georgian terrace houses, very popular again for families and a bit pricier. And finally, Clapham Junction is the area close to all restaurants and bars. Families tend to find it a bit hectic but it would be the perfect place for students because of the atmosphere and young professionals as it also has good links to the city.
Links to the city
Clapham has three tube stations: Clapham North, Clapham Common and Clapham South. They are all in zone 2 on the Northern line. It’s really well positioned in terms of transport, you can get to the west end in only 15 minutes. Clapham High Street is also on the overground so that enables good links to Canada Water, Shoreditch and Highbury & Islington. If you take a train from Clapham junction you can get to Victoria or Waterloo in under 10 minutes. And finally, if you’re not a fan of public transport… no worries! Cyclists will love the Cycle Superhighway 7 going along Clapham Common!

Renting in Clapham
The rent will vary a lot depending on which area of Clapham you live in. The cheapest one is Clapham North and Clapham Junction where you will find more flatshares and students. While Clapham Old Town and Clapham South would be a bit more pricey. The average rent for a one bedroom flat is £1,800 per month and for a two bed flat around £1,950 pm.

If you live in Clapham one thing is sure, you won’t be bored! The busy high street offers plenty of bars, restaurants, cafes and pubs. It is very alive and crowded on Saturday night but equally, you can enjoy a lovely brunch in an artsy cafe on Sunday morning. Venn Street Market next to Clapham Common Tube Station is your one-stop shop for all quality foods. Famous for its fish and seafood, numerous cheese stands and specialised coffee. Clapham Picturehouse is an arthouse cinema screening not only mainstream films but also the best of the independent movie scene. Clapham is not lacking in green space either, right in the centre there is the 89 hectare Clapham Common great for dog walkers, equipped with many playing fields and perfect for enjoying the sun during the warmer months.

Mommi – for food
Mommi is a Japanese-Peruvian fusion bar and restaurant. Very representative of the Clapham’s upbeat vibe. It’s a perfect place to meet friends for dinner, a few cocktails and before you know it the place will turn into a nightclub. During the weekends they have live music which is lovely and it’s also a good spot for Sunday brunches. Basically everything you need in just one place!
Joe Public – for pizza
If you’re more into a cosy/comfort food type of vibe, Joe Public is the place for you. Head there for the best artisanal pizza in Clapham and enjoy the funky decor (pretty much hipster paradise). You can order by the slice or you can have a huge 20 inches pizza if you want. They are delicious and the long queues for takeaway will prove it.
WC Wine & Charcuterie – for drinks
Near Clapham Common tube station you will find a building with the sign “WC” on it. It used to be a former public toilet but the sign now stands for Wine & Charcuterie. The wine ranges from £7 to £10 per glass and they have a very wide variety. The terrace is perfect for summer days where you can enjoy the sun with your friends and have a drink or two.
Birdhouse – for coffee
Birdhouse is a simple but absolutely delicious small coffee place. The space is unpretentious and simply serves its purpose: they make amazing coffee. The staff is very well trained and you can notice their passion for coffee and good customer service. They also serve bistro food like sandwiches, cakes and very yummy banana bread.
