An Area Guide to Walthamstow

The area

At the end of the Victoria line is hiding a little gem called Walthamstow. If you ever grow tired of London’s hectic pace, busy traffic and constant flux of people…  Living in Walthamstow is like living in a quiet and peaceful countryside, without really getting out of the city. Families are starting to move there more and more as the schools are good, many houses have large gardens and the area has a lot of green space around.
Links to the city
Walthamstow is in zone 3 but the Victoria line brings commuters to Central London in less than 30 minutes and the train links to Liverpool Street for a quick access to the City. Also as it’s at the end of the line, a seat in the morning is pretty much guaranteed!

 Renting in Walthamstow
The housing scene in Walthamstow is mainly Edwardian and Victorian houses. Renting in the area is still pretty affordable, two bedroom flats start at £1,000 PCM and top-end new building can reach near the £3,000 PCM. The most popular areas are Walthamstow Village and areas surrounding Hoe Street.

Living in Walthamstow
Green Spaces
If you love green space, Walthamstow is the perfect area for you. With Epping Forest right next door, your Sunday walks are settled for a while. London’s biggest nature reserve is also nearby, Walthamstow Wetlands is 13 miles of paths and beautiful reservoirs. Admire the wildlife and get your dose of fresh air.

Walthamstow Market
Walthamstow also has the longest outdoor market in Europe. Walthamstow Market is a kilometre-long and is filled with food, clothes and home decor. It’s open from Tuesday to Saturday and is truly a charming way to spend your Saturday afternoon.

Where to go
God’s Own Junkyard (aka neon heaven)
Think of anything, really anything and these guys will have it… in neon! This quirky shop is definitely worth stopping by. It’s absolutely unique and unlike anything else we’ve seen before. One of these pieces could definitely brighten up your flat and just put a smile on your face.

Yard Sale Pizza
There’s nothing better than a melting cheese pizza, right? And what a disappointment it is when the pizza is not as good as expected. But don’t worry we’ve got you, as usual. For a pizza that won’t let you down… try out a slice (or 10) at the Yard Sale Pizza.

Mother’s Ruin Gin Palace
Gin lovers, this one’s for you. This beautiful gin bar has more gin options than you can possibly dream of.  And the best part is that all the ingredients they use are taken either from their orchards or else from Walthamstow’s wilderness.

 Hucks Independant Coffee
Hucks is a little gem that will quickly make you feel at home in Walthamstow. The coffee is sourced locally and is delicious, even more when enjoyed with one of the baked goodies. They also have live music sometimes which is lovely.
