Area Guide to Holborn
Being a central location, Holborn is a pretty popular place to work, and play. There are endless restaurants with a wide variety of cuisine, bars to unwind in after work, and pubs that are so inviting, you’ll never want to leave. With Holborn once being associated with the legal profession and journalism, there are plenty of media characters still about, but also being located between the City and West end, it’s still a bustling place and full of character. So whether you’re looking to indulge in a relaxing dinner, embrace a West End show or browse the quirky independent shops (with equally quirky stock), there’s definitely plenty to do in Holborn.
Oh and it’s home to The British Museum. Need we say more…
Coffee
We like our coffee from a cafe that’s also a bar and grill, and we’re talking about Hubbard & Bell. Housed in the oh so cool Hoxton Hotel, they’re open from early morning until late at night. So grab your coffee, a breakfast bite, catch up on a few emails and then stay for a cheeky cocktail (or three). That’s how you order coffee these days, right?
Also try Workshop Coffee, where they source, roast and brew some of the best coffee around.
Brunch
Brunch needs to be good, and The Black Penny certainly know how to put on a good brunch spread. We’re talking Brioche French Toast, Burrata on Sourdough (delicious!), Bubble n Squeak and plenty of egg dishes to name just a few. Basically, cancel your plans and stay here for as long as possible.
Also try Hubbard & Bell, as their Italian style dishes are perfect for the weekend.
Dinner
Barrafina is a tapas bar that is a must visit. You’ll be greeted with an open kitchen, and a marble-topped bar where you can prop yourself up and watch the chefs at work. The menu is delicious, with authentic regional dishes from around Spain, and their wine list is impeccable.

Pub
If you’re looking for a perfect pub to relax in, then the Holborn Whippet is just that place. It’s a public house, stocking beer only from small craft breweries, quality wine and a jolly good lunch and dinner menu. Their decor is also elegant retro, so basically, it’s a yes from us!
Also try The Craft Beer Co, because they sure know their beers.
Drinks
There’s always time for a glass of wine, and The Bunghole Cellars is a gorgeous wine bar, offering an extensive wine list, with a rustic feel. You’ll also find plenty of spirits, craft beers and some delicious cocktails. Order yourself some grilled meats and fish dishes – you won’t be disappointed.
Also try The Yorkshire Grey for their Scottish and Japanese whiskies.
Walk
Wander the streets of Holborn, stopping to admire and browse the array of independent shops (with equally quirky stock), as there are plenty! But of course, with Holborn being home to the iconic British Museum, you’ll find it hard not to get lost inside (in a good way). There’s so much history and culture, that you’ll find it hard to leave…
