Team news England:
Influential England captain Steph Houghton is doubtful for game due to an ankle injury picked up in the ill tempered match against Cameroon. Milly Bright and Lucy Bronze 2 key defenders are also doubts for the game as they have been struggling with a vomiting virus.
Team News USA:
Alex Morgan who is joint top scorer at this year’s World Cup and will be a big threat to England if fit. However, there are some doubts as to whether she will be fully fit to play against England after taking a few knocks earlier on in the tournament.
How did the teams reach the semi final?:
England beat Norway in the Quarter Finals in some style 3-0 with Jill Scott, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze getting on the scoresheet. USA knocked out the hosts France in Paris 2-1 with Megan Rapinoe scoring a brace.
Our View:
We are excited to be supporting England in the semi finals and are very excited about the prospect of seeing the Lionesses play in the World Cup Final. However, after watching England Men’s and Women’s teams we know how important it is to focus on the next game first. USA is currently the number 1 ranked team in the world and have been in great form during the tournament. Winning will be tough though England are no long shot for the Semi-Final as we currently ranked 3rd and are unbeaten so far in the tournament.
Both teams will have their work cut out to keep a clean sheet as 3 of the top 4 goal scorers from this competition could be on the pitch at the same time. USA’s Alex Morgan and Megan Repinhoe both have 5 goals. Ellen White England’s top scorer in France also has 5. All 3 players will be keen to score as they try to win the golden boot.
Prediction:
I am backing the Lionesses to win the game of course and believe that Phil Neville has the acumen and motivation skills to get the best out of the team.
I believe that England will win the game 2:1 which would be an epic win.
I have asked around in the office for score predictions and there has been a split in opinion as to who will win the game.
