The chunky knits are out in full force, the heating is on ready for those colder mornings, and the leaves have turned to that delicious array of coppers, reds and gold. Autumn is well and truly here (does this mean we can talk Christmas yet?), but that doesn’t mean it’s time for hibernation just yet. And with one of the best seasons here, there’s always so much to do in October.

From Oktoberfest, to celebrating food at a variety of festivals and not forgetting the love-or-hate-it Halloween, we’ve rounded up all the goings-on in London this month. Basically, get outdoors, watch the trees change colour as you go, and don’t forget your jumper!

Erdinger Oktoberfest London

(1 – 28 October)

Always wanted to experience an authentic German Oktoberfest? Well, luckily for you, the Erdinger Oktoberfest returns to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this month. Don either your lederhosen or dirndl and get tucked into traditional German food whilst enjoying a stein of beer as you sing and dance to some of Munich’s most famous bands. Make room for an apple strudel too.

London Restaurant Festival

(1 – 31 October)

Who doesn’t love any excuse to celebrate food? In its tenth year, London Restaurant Festival takes place in the capital’s best restaurants across the city, where it’s all food glorious food. Think mini menus, taster evenings and creative events. This is one you want to be part of – especially showing the highlights of London’s thriving restaurant scene!

Yayoi Kusama

(3 October – 21 December)

You may not remember Yayoi Kusama by name, but you’ll most likely know what we’re talking about when we mention those polka dot pumpkins in that mirror room. Yayoi is back with her twelfth exhibition at Victoria Miro, where we guarantee she’ll be drawing in the crowds again. There’s an Infinity room, paintings, flower sculptures and work from her ‘My Eternal Soul’ collection to name a few. So prepare to selfie galore!

Frieze London

(5 – 7 October)

One of the hottest and biggest art fairs returns, with over 160 galleries from across the globe, showcasing their beautiful and inspiring pieces. You’ll not only find plenty of artwork to browse and admire, but there’s also a programme of talks and events such as Frieze Music and Film. And it’s located in Regent’s Park, so enjoy a stroll in the park after for that ultimate autumnal feeling.

The Cake & Bake Show

(5-7 October)

We’re all for a bit of Great British Bake off, so when there’s an event dedicated to cake, we are there! Basically there’s all things baking, so whether you’re after some edible glitter in a wider range of colours, or in need of tips on how to bake a specific cake, you’ll find it under the roof at ExCel. We also heard there’s a great line-up including GBBO winners Candice Brown and John Whaite to name a few. Cake is life. So we’ll see you there.

London Film Festival

(10 – 21 October)

Dubbed one of the biggest celebrations in the film calendar, the BFI London Film Festival promises to be one of the strongest line-ups this year. There’ll be big gala screenings, documentaries and films, masterclasses and Q&A sessions. Basically, if you’re a film buff you’ll know all about it and have your ticket, and if you’re not, then still snap up your ticket now!

Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Festival

(25 – 28 October)

If you can’t quite make it to the Alps this year, fear not, as the Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Festival brings it right to Battersea Park. Celebrating all things winter sports, expect live music and entertainment, the Mount Battersea slope, street food and the trusty ice rink. Oh and there’s also a chance to get your hands on all the latest clobber – because it’s all about the gear, with no idea these days isn’t it?

Diwali on the Square

The Festival of Lights is such a beautiful celebration and it’s back in Trafalgar Square for another year of food, music and fun. Expect traditional and contemporary performances, activities and some really delicious Asian Food.

Halloween

You either love it or hate it, but either way, London is about to get a little spooky this Halloween. There’s plenty of things happening around the city, with parties and events, Pumpkin workshops, Fright Nights, and the chance to explore museums and galleries after dark. Or, why not host a Halloween themed party for your and your friends with some Pinterest-worthy decorations. Basically, you’re never too old for trick or treating.

Make sure you take a stroll either through Richmond Park, Kew Gardens or Regent’s Park too, because the array of autumnal colours is not to be missed. Oh and it’s the perfect photo backdrop.
