What to expect from an ideal flatmate event

You’ve seen our exciting range of flatmate matching events, and read up on why you should come… but what can you expect when you attend? Aside from giving you the opportunity to meet a bunch of cool new flatmates and hopefully have some fun, here’s how the events will work.

1. Arrival

Whether you’re arriving at an event alone or with a friend, there’ll be a friendly ideal flatmate representative waiting to meet you. Say hi, and get your name ticked off the list. We advise arriving a little bit earlier than the advertised start time, so you can be first in line for your free drink or get the best spot in the yoga studio!

2. Get ready

Grab a drink, a bite to eat, a yoga mat or a game card for Flatmate Bingo, and get stuck into mingling with the other guests. We appreciate that making small talk can be difficult and getting to know a room full of people is daunting, but remember – everyone there is in the same position, and you never know who might make a brilliant flatmate!

3. Enjoy the main activity

We’ve always got a trick up our sleeve for our events, whether that’s an ice-breaker game of Flatmate Bingo, a relaxing yoga session, or exclusive guided tours of new apartment buildings. Make the most of the opportunity: our games are designed to be conversation starters, and our apartment tours are unique chances to view several apartments and find someone to share them with all in one night.

4. Stay in touch

Be sure to swap contact details with anyone you get along with on the night. There’s nothing worse than leaving an event and realising you didn’t get your perfect flatmate’s number! From there, you can arrange to meet up more and view some flats – with the handy advantage of already getting to know eachother before you take the plunge and move in together.

Top tips to remember

  • Know your budget – there’s no point organising viewings for rooms you can’t afford.
  • If you’re looking for someone to join your existing flat – bring all your current flatmates with you. Your prospective new flatmate will want to meet everyone!
  • Know your area – have a rough idea of the kinds of areas you’ll want to live in, even if that’s as vague as west London or south London.
  • But also, be flexible – just because your perfect flatshare is a little bit further from work than you’d like, doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it. What’s an extra stop on the tube when you’re living in the best flat with the best people?
  • Keep an open mind – you never know who you might meet!
