Hackney Council approves additional and selective licensing schemes for HMOs
Landlords with a property located in Hackney need to know that after a consultation earlier this year, Hackney Council have now approved a five-year selective licensing pilot scheme of all non-HMOs as well as borough-wide additional licensing for all HMOs.

Concluding a six-month consultation that started in late September, the council has now published its full report, (see above) mentioning the poor conditions of HMOs in the relevant boroughs.
As well as the licensing schemes, a “programme of intelligence-based, targeted enforcement for homes not covered by the licensing schemes” will be launched by the council.
The three wards approved for selective licensing are:
Cazenove, Brownswood and Stoke Newington

The Fees
– Borough-wide Additional Licensing Scheme for Houses in Multiple Occupation: £950
– Three ward Selective Licensing Scheme: £500
A £50 discount will apply to landlords who are members of a recognised landlord body or approved accreditation scheme.
